1 ) What considerations led you to modify/change your original plan when you were in the process of developing your project?

The considerations that led me to modify my original plan when developing my project were mainly colour.  When I first practiced on my face for the good copy I tried to use just yellow and orange.  However, when I looked at my face, the yellow and orange did not have the depth of colour and emotional response.  When I was practicing again, Brie gave me  the suggestion to add red and purple, which gave me the depth of colour and warm feeling I was looking for.  I decided to add these colours to my palette and I was happy with my choice.

2) What evidence can be found in your portfolio (Instagram and website) of how the exploration and revision stages changed your original idea?

The evidence that can be found of my change in colour palette is my good copy of my face compared to the first time I painted on my face.  The first time I just used purple and I had no clue what I was going to do for my good copy of my face at that point and what colours I was going to use.  There was no depth and no feeling associated with my first face painting.  After doing the first round of practice on my face I had a better idea of how to improve my face, and I transferred that to my good copy.

3) What emotions do you associate with the colours you picked for your design? How might other peoples associations of colour change the way they feel when looking at your work?

Emotions that I associate with the colours that I picked for my design are happiness, warmth and a sense of empathy. Other people's association of the colours that I used may change because the colours are quite strong, and could to some people seem a bit angry.  This was not, however, how I felt about the colour choices and perhaps by looking at my end product, they would  think how it would make them feel warm and included because of the palette  of warm colours over a palette of cool colours.

4) What criteria would you use when selecting an art work to present to your class? Would you use different criteria when selecting a work for a community art show? Why? What, if anything, would you do differently when creating your art work if you knew it was going to be displayed in a public space? Why?

Criteria that I would use when selecting a piece of art to present to my class is making sure that the piece of art expresses my self, making sure that the piece of art uses a colour palette that goes together and uses one style of painting (ether painterly or smooth and looks blended.)  I would use the same criteria if it were going to be in a community art show because that is what I would want my art to look like if it were in a community art show. If there were anything that I would change if it were to be in a public space is the amount of times that I messed up and probley do a bit more pure white for highlights.

5) What are some techniques you used to create the effect of light in a painting?

Some of the techniques that I used to create the effect of light in my painting is:

  1. Pure white highlights

  2. Mixing lighter versions of colours and placing them in places where the light would hit.
