For my sign language hand model, I decided to do a collage of nature.   I love nature and the outdoors, and my happy place is outdoors at my cottage on Bass Lake.  I have experimented with my camera and taken many photos of nature so my hand also displays my interest in photography.

What is my sign language hand model symbolizing about myself and Reasons For Making it?
How I created it....

My process of making this project started with me making the mold and smoothing out the surface. After making the mold of my hand, I printed the photos I wanted to use and I glued the photos onto the mold on my hand and layered photos on top of one another on the mold of my hand.  After layering the photos on top of each other, I used red, blue and white paint and mixed shades of blue, purple and pink. Lastly, I completed my sign language hand by layering matte gel medium to seal it.

Evolution and Reflection

My sign language hand evolved quite a bit from when I started this project. At first, I was just going to paint my hand in ombre purple.  I then thought of something that better represented myself, which was nature and photography. I then intended to do a collage of photos of nature from the internet, but then I decided to use photos I myself had taken and I also added the idea of doing a wash of paint over my collage of photos combining my original idea with my evolved idea.   If I had more time I would definitely add more washes of paint over the collage of photos.
